A Gift for Life

A not so long time ago, while waiting in a sick call visit at a doctor in Morristown for one of my four daughters, I made a discovery which would influence my children’s lives forever. It was only a sign hung on the wall. Later having become involved through the reading of that sign, I too became a volunteer of its suggestion. GIVE YOUR CHILD A GIFT… LEARN A WORLD LANGUAGE – GERMAN.

Only a sign yes, but treasure awaiting the person who might want to explore the opportunity to broaden the horizons of their young.

The time to learn is an on going process always, but especially when children are young. There is no limit to the absorption of new material in their brain. Add pliable, flexible facial muscles to the pronouncement of ‘foreign’, strange sounds and the potential for a “native born speaker” is such an investment. Learning another language like German is an investment in tomorrow. It will take time and effort, but it does open a whole new world of learning to not only explore another culture, but understand other people and realize there is more of a commonality connecting us to human race, than differences. It helps us to know and see others more clearly. In turn we become more tolerant of each other and ourselves. Thereby unleashing the power within to become more focused on our gifts as well as striving to become all that we are meant to be. It gives us energy for our future goal.  A real byproduct... It’s adventurous to travel and understand all that one sees… it’s a story complete... to be in the present... it’s called living life to the fullest. Tell me now, which parent would not want to give THIS GIFT, to their offspring?

I have sent four of my daughters to the German Language School of Morris County. It has compromised a good number of my years as a parent… I have lost count, maybe 15 years of Saturday mornings or more. I would not change any of it. As I look at the present and am aware of the accomplishments of my children,  I realize most were due in large part to having had the opportunity to see and learn about a whole new world from the dedicated teachers of the German Language School. One would have to travel far and wide to find more capable, devoted professional masters of German, heralded by a Principal who believes all things are possible through the education of learning German. They are indeed life’s finest people to teach your most treasured asset, your child.

A note aside, in this competitive world in which we live having the ability to know more language is most valuable. Shall I say, “It gives on the edge,” when a choice must be made between two. Also, by decoding one language, a second, and third are non-problematic and learned easier.

My offspring have studied German, French and Spanish. One of my daughters at college recently attended a Job Fair… Looking over her resume and seeing the command of the above languages she possesses, the recruiter told her, “You are just what we have been looking for.”

As a parent being actively involved in the German Language School of Morris County, I too have grown in life’s experiences. Your child will flourish and blossom, knowing you take the time to participate along with them as you journey side by side. Together you will share a connection to the past, present and future.  Your efforts will come back to you, infinite times over.  Because of you, and The Gift you have given, you have opened up a new dimension for your child to give back to the world with love guiding them in their chosen profession. Oh yes I would do it again and again and again.
